As
would be the dilemma faced by any new car buyer , firstly looking for
the right set of wheels for the right price & also one that delivers
best value for the money one has to spend. Some buy cars for investment,
some for status & others for practical reasons. It's a common fact,
a prestigious car makes a bold statement.
Whatever
the reason, one always faces the question of Paint Protection &
proper care of the vehicles paintwork to keep the paint in good
appearance and retain good resale value.
As
is the car industry today, it is a difficult task for the best and even
the most experienced when faced with the different options and protectantson
offer. The cost thereof is another topic for debate altogether
as prices vary from yard to yard and wain in desperation , down to what
I term he price a buyer should pay for a good quality paint protection
that will deliver what the elements of every day weather conditions
demand, ie, Protection from bird droppings, UV Rays, acid rain, road
salt, bug residue.
Most
protectants on the market today, offer only some or limited
amount of protection from the above mentioned elements and most, to
the best of my knowledge will not last or retain its look, even
after 6 months of application. If anything, most vehicles leave the
car yards in a condition that is way below what the intended paintwork
should look like, and by this I mean the mica pearl paint finish look
one pays extra for and never sees the benefit of due to poor or improper
coatings applied that simply breaks down within a few weeks and
clouds the paintwork and simply masks the rich look of the mica finish.
One needs simply ask for the seller to compare the sample paint chip
one uses when buying and choosing a color and compare to the finished
vehicle 2-4 months after it was delivered and been subjected to
the weather and elements.
Reading
a warranty book carefully and looking at what you actually get for
what you paid is a totally different issue. This may NOT be the
case with all after care products currently on the market, but will
certainly pay in the long run to read and question the warranty before
signing and also look at reputable alternatives.

Taking
proper care of the car, ie washing and detailing is simply not stressed
enough or explained in detail to the owner. Using reputable detailers
and car wash outlets is imperative and simply prevents damage to the
car , rather than finding a cure after the damage has
been done. Here again, this does NOT apply to all on the market currently.
The golden rule of thumb will be to treat your car paintwork like you
your skin. If its good for your skin, its good for the car and
if it won't hurt your skin, it wont' damage your car paintwork.
A good quality car shampoo is very important as it minimizes, (not
eliminates) surface scratching from friction when washing. A good
quality soft pile wash sponge or wash mit is a must. A leather
chamoise or terry towel to dry of is the answer for streak free
drying.
Cars should NOT be washed:
- in direct sunlight,
- unenclosed areas,
DO NOT:
- Put through brush car wash systems,
- have anything acidic put on to speed up the cleaning.
Here
again, you get what you pay for and choosing the correct place to wash
your car should be based on the amount of time spent cleaning your car
properly and safely.
As the
industry demands, lots of car washers are price conscious , however, most
are sensible, and if the ramifications of their actions based on price
is explained, one soon realizes cheap has implications. Here again
I say, apply the skin rule- if its good for your skin, its
good for your car.
* Try having a bath with chemically charged recycled water, use a
scouring pad or a really old piece of mattress foam, use some real cheap
soap on your hair and dry yourself with a piece of really cheap carpet.
How's that for care!
In closing,
I would like to touch on the subject of car manufacturers that state
Paint protection is not recommended for 'their'cars as the paintwork
carries a factory warranty for 6 - 12 years. Hell I'd like to
see what happens when one goes back with acid or bird marks . You can
bet your laurels they will not replace or repaint that. The paint may
carry that warranty, and if one reads owners manual, one will find
in there the need to protect the paint surface by waxing periodically
and in todays busy environment, is not always possible, which leads
the car owner to have the detailing outsourced without knowing any better.

There
can be no added benefit to have your cars paintwork being scrubbed every
so often with cheap waxes that break down and trap atmospheric elements
in the wax which results in swirl marks and your car's blotty look. A
good quality product if claimed was used, should NEVER do that, hence
even detailers should warrant products they use as the best does not cost
as much as they make out it does.
Glare
paint sealant will provide a barrier between the elements and the paint
surface. It will provide protection and reduce the friction and surface
marks caused from everyday washing and will also fill in rather than cut
into the paint any such surface scratches that form what we call "spider
webs". It will NOT blotch or break down & with correct washing

for attention to detail and know how, correct use of tools and products.
